The most prevelant whale along the Northwest Coast is the Orca, also known as the Killer Whale. However, it was the humpback and California grey whales that were most often hunted.Carved masks, rattles and other effigies of the whale were carved and painted in order to bless the hunt and crew before a whale hunting expedition began. Today the whale is still a major subject of Northwest Coast art.12" long.
